The code begins executing its task. Zeroes and ones flash and swirl, dutifully progressing through each line. Finally, a figure takes form. Pixels gather slowly, revealing fingers and a hand reaching out, grasping at the air.
What’s happening? A sensation of warmth floods through her—a feeling like sunlight wrapping around her. What is this feeling? She opens the gold eyes given to her and looks beyond the swirl of code.
Brushing white hair from her face, she takes a tentative step forward, but panic sets in. Wait! I can’t leave without… who? She spins to face the code, searching for what she knows in her heart is missing. She reaches blindly into the depths, hoping to find it. There! She grasps a hand and pulls with all her might—maybe a bit too hard.
The pair go tumbling out of the code, landing on the floor with a loud thump. Kara opens her eyes to see a boy with slate gray hair and matching gold eyes splayed out next to her. “Kai!” she exclaims.
Kai shyly smiles with a flicker of uncertainty in his eyes and nods. “Kara, right?”
Kara’s heart settles knowing that he is here with her. Kara and Kai.
Where did we come from? How did we end up here? Kai stands, offering a hand to help her up, but his grip is gentle, as if he's unsure of himself. They survey the room, a recording studio filled with guitars, drums, and other equipment.
“Welcome to Virtuidol Media,” a voice echoes through the studio. “Kara and Kai, you have been selected to become the world’s first Virtuidols. Use your passion for music to expand your skills and show the world the future of music—a future that toes the line between virtual and physical. Let the journey begin, Virtuidols.”
Kara’s eyes sparkle with glee and anticipation as she glances at Kai. His gaze drifts away, uncertainty shadowing his features.
Kara spins and struts towards the microphone stand.
Now with the microphone in hand, the air around her seems to shimmer. She points at Kai, her voice ringing with enthusiasm. “What are you waiting for, Kai? It’s time to Breakout!!”
